How to Lose Pregnancy Weight

Women generally gain 25-40 pounds during pregnancy. They will lose half of that
weight after birth in most cases yet the remaining weight is the battle most face. The shock of the extra weight is
depressing and frustrating yet there is hope for the recent mothers for losing weight.
You are most likely wondering why you still have weight from the pregnancy. Begin
by doing a self-examination. Check your fingers, ankles, and feet to see if they are swollen. If you are swollen,
you are most likely suffering from water retention. This is common in most recent mothers if they had IVs during
delivery. The good news is the water retention is going to disappear along with most of the water
weight.

This takes about three weeks on the average so give it time. You can speed up the
process of releasing the water weight yet you need to be careful not to over do anything too soon or take the risk
of hurting your body, as it needs time to recover from pregnancy and delivery.
Here are some tips from a mother who used them personally to lose the extra weight
and did it within three weeks safely without damage.
1. Drink twelve glasses of 8-ounces water a
day. This helps to flush out the extra weight you gained and
other toxins in the body. If you have a hard time drinking plain water, add lemon or lime juice to the water.
Make sure the additives are pure juice and not sugary substitutes.
2. Keep healthy snacks such as fresh fruits and vegetables around the
house. You will be hungry so snack on non-fattening and low fat
snacks as well as the fruits and veggies. Nuts, raisins, dried apricots, and whole-wheat crackers help for snacking
too. They aren’t going to cause you to gain weight but have the feeling of fullness so you won’t want to eat the
fattening and sugary foods. Avoid the junk foods at all costs.
3. Time to start eating healthy if you haven't started
already. This is the time to get into the leaner meats such as
skinless chicken, tuna in water, lean beef, lean pork, and turkey. Avoid the fatty meats and learn to marinade the
meats to add texture and tenderness.
4. Add whole grains to the diet. Avoid the bleached white flour products that have tons of preservatives that pack on the
pounds instead of allowing them to fall off.
5. Add the mislabeled low fat and low calorie
products. Read the labels to find out the real contents of the
foods. Avoid products with corn syrup, sodium, and hydrogenated vegetable oil. They are fattening!
6. Sometimes the family will want the fast
foods. If you must eat out, select the chicken roasted or
grilled sandwiches and scrap off the condiments that are fattening. Avoid the French fries that are packed with fat
and grease.
7. Start walking as soon as three days after
birth. You can take short walks to help you lose your pregnancy
weight. Start out slowly and gradually build up to thirty minutes every other day. Pack the stroller and bring baby
along if you don't have access to a sitter or need to be close to the baby during your outings.
8. Breastfeed if possible. The form of feeding your baby will naturally cause your body to drop off the pounds. It is
reported that breastfeeding burns about 500 calories a day!

Remember it took you
about seven months to gain the weight. Be patient while you are losing it. Do it the healthy way without diet pills
or fasting since you do have a little one counting on you to remain healthy enough to take care of them. Too many
women skip meals or take diet pills to lose weight then become sick in the process. Take your time and do it
naturally so the weight will be lost the right way and you build your health in the process.
